Dialer Hot Keys: Log Every Call Without Reaching for the Mouse

Read: 4 min

Every call in a Power Dialer session ends the same way. You decide what happened, you click the result, and the dialer moves you to the next contact. Contact, No Contact, Voicemail, Bad Number: hundreds of times a session, thousands of times a week. Each one of those clicks is small. Together they are the rhythm of your calling, and anything that slows the rhythm slows you.

The problem

We watched how agents actually use the dialer, and the most common sign of friction was the same button being clicked over and over in quick succession: the result buttons and the session controls, mid-call, while an agent waited for the screen to catch up. Hands were leaving the keyboard to find a button, then coming back to write a note, then leaving again for the next result. The dialer was mouse-only, and it showed.

What is new: Hot Keys

Power Dialer now has keyboard shortcuts, and they are off until you decide to use them. In the dialer sidebar, flip Show Hot Keys. Every result button and control shows its key, and from then on you can log results and run the session from the keyboard.

The default layout follows the buttons you already know, top to bottom:

  • 1 Contact
  • 2 No Contact
  • 3 No Contact (Next Record), when you are dialing with Call Hammer
  • 4 Bad Number
  • 5 Voicemail, drops your default message. Shift + 5 picks a different message.
  • H Hang Up, P Pause and Resume, R Redial, M Mute and Unmute on Mojo Voice
  • C Call Lead, N Next Lead, B Previous Lead when you are working leads one at a time

Press ? at any time for the full list. Stop Session has no key on purpose, so a stray press can never end your session.

Make the keys yours

Not everyone dials from a keyboard with a number pad, and not everyone thinks in the same letters. Under Settings, Dialer, Keyboard Shortcuts, choose Customize Hot Keys. You will see each action next to a key box. Click the box, press the key you want, and it is set. Letters, numbers, and punctuation all work, with or without Shift. Any key you leave alone keeps its default, and Reset brings back the original layout at any time. If two actions ever land on the same key, the dialer tells you before it saves.

Built to stay out of your way

Hot keys only fire when the matching button would work. If a result button is not available yet because the call is still connecting, the key waits too. While you are typing in a note or any other text field, the keys go quiet, so writing “call back at 2” never logs a result. Holding a key down does not repeat it, and a double-tap does not double-log.

Your choice is remembered. Turn Show Hot Keys on once and it stays on for you until you turn it off.

Try it on your next session

Start a Power Dialer session, flip Show Hot Keys, and work a few calls from the keyboard. Most agents find their hands stop leaving the keys within the first list. If the defaults do not fit the way you work, change them in Dialer Settings and they will follow you into every session from then on.

This one came straight from your requests and from what we could see in the dialer. Keep telling us where the friction is.
